Spring Cleaning: Clean Up the Clutter!

This time of year, many folks find themselves doing those major, top to bottom household cleanings that have been put off since fall. Taking care of cobwebs, cleaning out and reorganizing closets, drawers and storage areas, etc.

When organizing your Spring Cleaning, don't forget these areas, which will not only decrease your clutter, but make your home and property safer:

Medicine cabinets-Are any of your medicines expired?
Under bathroom and kitchen sinks-old cleaning supplies can change and degrade over time
Pantry and food storage areas-Discard expired foods, look for evidence of bug and/or rodent infestation
Outbuildings-This is a great time to buy a workbench or other storage to organize your tools and equipment, so that a misplaced item doesn't cause an accident
Property and fence lines-Do you have a build up of debris from high winds or drainage?
Crawl spaces-Open crawl spaces can also have a build up of debris; closed in ones can show evidence of structure damage or pest infestation
Yard Area-Debris build up, unfinished projects, and new weathering from drainage can all be accidents waiting to happen, especially if children will be playing in your yard

This is also a great time of year to be working on wild fire mitigation efforts. Firewise.org has some great suggestions for creating beautiful, sustainable, and safe landscaping.
